way too stinking cute!!! I laughed at the same time you did at the little black one!
They are adorable, and I hope they ALL get adopted, but don’t most “pet stores” like this encourage puppy mills? Granted, they look very happy now, but where did they come from? You can find equally cute puppies, and other animal companions at your local animal shelter.
Cute!! They bounce!
too freakin’ cute!!!
They’re cute, but they aren’t as cute as my dog.
Cute lil jumpy things! (Go Yanks!)
Okay, I apologize for the length, but as someone heavily involved in dog rescue, it really irks me to see puppy mills succeeding in their goals….
If you want to cut the chase w/o reading this, check out: http://www.milldogrescue.org/index.html to get the scoop on what is actually going on – with any pet store selling dogs.
Unfortunately, ALL pet stores offer puppies from puppy mills. Many will try to tell you that they come from breeders….and they will show you “papers” with breeders’ names on them, but really these are just the names of the owners of the puppy mills. Most of them come from the midwest or from Pennsylvania, where rules about breeding/selling animals are much more lax.
No good breeder would ever sell their pets to a pet store. And, good breeders as a general rule have potential puppy owners lined up around the corner because they are good breeders, offer quality dogs, support, health care, etc.
I know of one program where a mall pet store shut down and instead the mall allowed the local SPCA to showcase available dogs there…but unfortunately pet stores that sell puppies and kittens are alive and well. No matter how nice of a store…remember that that puppy has a momma that is back somewhere in a warehouse or barn, in a small crate with little room to move and not much socialization, required to stay there while she pops out litter after litter until she can’t do it anymore.
If you’re going to spend that amount of money, spend it on a dog that you know has come from a loving environment, has had all of the necessary health vaccinations and has healthy, champion parents as well as a responsible breeder who will make you sign a contract and require you to bring the puppy back if for whatever reason you are unable to keep it. Do pet stores do any of this? No.
Or, even better, spend a fraction of the cost and get a rescue dog – a reputable rescue will have a dog that has been spayed/neutered, up to date on all shots and healthy, a contract to sign that also includes returning the dog for any future problem, and can help you find the dog that is right for your family as they often already know the dog’s temperament pretty well.
And you might think you’re saving that puppy in the window (and I am definitely not saying that that puppy isn’t deserving of love) but really all you are doing is adding $$$ to an already unfortunately lucrative business…and ensuring that that puppy’s momma stays in that crate, for the rest of her life.
I apologize…but I just finished reading their FAQs page: http://www.lepetitpuppynyc.com/faq.html
what complete bullshit!
Shame, Matt…I really think it’s great that you are providing a space for local rescues to showcase adoptable animals….so is it necessary to be counterproductive and advertise for pet stores that lie to their customers?
What about Benson’s? Benson’s is a great local pet store chain that has excellent staff who are extremely knowledgeable and they allow local rescue groups into their stores to showcase adoptable dogs.
I’m sorry, but after I spend time going into shelters looking at dogs that may be put to sleep if rescue does not take them (and there have been plenty of times when I have had to say, “No”) and then I see this…it just hits a nerve.
I LOVE walking past this Puppy Store! So adorable,
puppy mill puppies?
Yeah, but they are really cute.
Nick, you need to Google “puppy mill”. ALL pet store dogs come from puppy mills, regardless of what they tell you.
