Olivia Palermo is one of those girls I love to hate. I was never a huge “The City” fan. I barely watched maybe five episodes tops? And in those episodes I pretty much had my mind made up about her. Who the hell was she? With her fantastic clothes and her bitchy attitude? Oh I really hated her, but is that Zac Posen? I love!
Where did she come from, and how because of one little show did she land every magazine? Street style I am sorry does not start with a socialite who probably does not wear these outfits more than once. How did she get front row or ad campaigns? It is just not fair. Thank God Bill Cunningham hasn’t taken her picture. He knows better.
Yet, every single time I’m rolling my eyes at her perfectly ironed hair I want everything she is wearing. Girl just knows. She just knows. From glamorous to just walking the street, she pulls it off. In almost an annoying way. Almost, as if she was posing for an editorial spread every minute of every day.
I want a little mess up. I want hair out of place. I want a granny smelling thrift store find on her. She has an eye for style, no doubt about it. Yet, I want something to make her look a little more human and less cookie cutter.
A little more like us. And in the same retrospect we shouldn’t strive to be her. In her all her “perfectly prepped” or “laid back” or “street style” brain trap. She tries too hard to be perfect at too many things. You can totally bounce from style or genre, go for it, take hints from her outfits!
So Olivia, can you miss the mark once in a while? Can you wear something from last season? Can you have a hair out of place? I’ll like you so much more.

If she goes to the gym, (she’s so darn skinny she doesn’t need to) she probably styles herself pretty with cream blush for a glow on her cheeks, and the most fabulous workout attire and designer gym bag. No one is fabulous 24/7 and I agree that showing us a little more “normal” would boost her image overall!
I rarely comment on blogs, but find the need to opine here. LOVE this post and wish I could afford every piece of clothing in your little collage above!
@Melissa Thank you!
Emily has hit the nail on this one. I wonder where this working socialite came from and how she does it. Her taste is impeccable, even though sometimes I don’t want to admit it. I just can’t turn away from staring at her beautiful style choices. Emily, your blog articles are superbly written….Bravo
You know, there’s really nothing quite like reading a post such as this, feeling compelled to begin stalking her via Google images, and then remembering why you shouldn’t go for that extra handful of M&M’s… sheesh. lol
